Tip

Notion tip: At Notion, we use this template to help teams plan, design, and develop products with the best chances of success. It helps teams think more deeply about their work, improves asynchronous communication with other teams, and creates a space for collaboration.

Problem

Example questions to answer: What problem are we solving? For whom? When do they experience this problem? What data, research, and feedback do we have that explain this problem? Which customers are we working with or listening to in order to better understand this problem? Why is it urgent to solve this problem? Why is it important?

Proposal

Example questions to answer: How do we solve this problem? What alternatives did we consider? Why did we choose this approach? What is the general shape of this solution? Do we have any mockups, prototypes, or relevant market comparisons? How will we know we have solved this problem? What will we measure? Did we consider how we will build this to be fast, effective, scalable, and/or relatively low cost in our services?

Plan

Example questions to answer: What are we building? How does it work? How do we know it works? What are we measuring? When will it be ready? Next, answer these questions:

  • Question 1: Does everyone know what we are launching?
    • Internal alignment
      • Can we explain what this change entails?
      • Have the details of this change been shared with other functions?
    • External messaging
      • How will we communicate our launch to customers?
      • How will customers understand the changes due to this launch?
  • Question 2: Are we sure this is going to work?
    • Quality
      • Has this product been adequately tested?
      • Have the effects on other products been verified?
      • Has capacity planning been done?
      • Is there a contingency plan if the launch does not go well?
    • Measurement
      • Do we know how to determine if this launch is a success or not?
      • Can others see how this launch is going?
  • Question 3: What are the launch steps?
    • Plan
      • Have the launch audiences been agreed upon with the product marketing lead?
      • Have the launch steps been agreed upon with the product marketing lead?
